Small Firm

Summary

The Small Firm Section of the Greater Los Angeles Chapter of the Association of Legal Administrators (GLA ALA) serves as an educational and networking group for GLA ALA members interested in topics related to management of a law firm with a single small office or branch office of a larger firm.  The Small Firm Section is open to any member of the GLA ALA.  Members of the section include Executive Directors, Office Administrators, Human Resource Directors, CFO’s, Accounting & Finance Managers and a variety of individuals with other titles.  Other than Chapter Membership, there are no prerequisites to join the group.

How to join

There is no fee to join the Small Firm Section, nor forms to complete.  Simply notify our Membership Chair, Tanya Russell, of your interest in joining the Small Firm Section, and She will add you to the database.  The Chairperson of the Small Firm Section receives updates from Membership regarding members interested in the Section.

Meetings

The Chairperson of the Section coordinates periodic meeting of the Section which are announced in the GLA ALA newsletter Leadership Exchange, The GLA ALA website http://www.glaala.org/calendar.htm, as well as by e-mail from the chairperson.  These meetings are usually held around the lunch hour at the offices of a member firm, there is a nominal fee to cover the cost of lunch.  The format of the meeting vary and include roundtable discussions, panel discussions and presentations involving vendors or other experts, presentations by Section members and participation in teleseminars sponsored by ALA National.

Meetings are generally held the 3rd Thursday of the month about four times per year and alternate between a downtown LA and Westside location.  Depending on the topic and other factors, the number of participants in a meeting ranges from 10 to 20.

The Small Firm Management Section serves as an educational and networking group for members interested in topics related to management of smaller (1-25 attorneys) law firms.  The format of the meetings vary and include roundtable discussions, guest speakers, and vendor presentations.

Meetings are free and open to all small firm administrators who are members of GLA ALA.  The Small Firm Management Section Meeting dates and times can be found in the Chapter Calendar area. 

 

The Small Firm Management Section was formed in order to respond to challenges faced by small law firms and small branch offices. The Section meets monthly and provides a venue for small law firm administrators and managers to discuss issues and share ideas. The members are provided with collaborative opportunities as a means to produce quality services while leveraging the small law firm dollar. This section also provides guest speakers at every other monthly meeting to address the latest trends impacting small firms. The Section provides an avenue for small law firm administrators to network.
