California Business Development Senior Manager |
| Description: |
• Work with California offices’ Partners-in-Charge, select practice groups and/or practice segments, as well as the Chief Marketing Officer in developing business development strategies and action plans, and leading the implementation efforts.
• Work with California attorneys to develop presentations for new business. This includes strategic approaches, market research, copywriting, editing materials and recommending changes, and working with the business development staff to execute in a professional and timely manner.
• Strategize with attorneys following client pitches and other business development events regarding follow-up activities; tracking results of pitches and other business development efforts.
• Work in tandem with the Chief Marketing Officer and with outside public relations firms to increase the firm’s visibility, name recognition, and the awareness of legal services available through the California offices among potential and existing clients.
• At the request of the California Partners-in-Charge and practice group leaders, attend and network at business association/organization events and provide leads for business development efforts, such as direct marketing presentations and speaking opportunities.
• With the Partners-in-Charge develop the yearly budget for the California offices to raise awareness and recognition of Alston & Bird within the California corporate arena, as well as some European and Asian countries, as requested. Monitor the budget throughout the year.
• Manage internal and external seminars for clients/prospects. Assist attorneys and marketing specialists in developing seminar topics and targeted mailing lists. Work with marketing staff to develop direct mail pieces/invitations and other attendee materials.
• Coordinating with the Atlanta Business Development department and the California Business Development staff, oversee the development and writing of marketing materials useful for attorneys’ use such as: brochures, practice group descriptions, deal lists; firm press coverage (CA), and other related materials. This aspect of the position would also work with the CA Partners-in-Charge in producing California’s office materials for lateral initiatives, as well as for client development generally.
• Manage the continued updating/use of Interaction within the California offices for use in firm wide and/or California-based business development efforts.
• Prepare and oversee publishing of the California office’s business development newsletter, at least three times annually. This includes gathering marketing-related information, results of marketing activities, information regarding civic and client activities in which attorneys have participated.
• Plan and organize client related and promotional events, tickets for clients, etc. As appropriate, work with Special Events Coordinator in Atlanta to coordinate event date, menus, budgets, etc.
• Supervise Business Development staff across the California offices. |
| Required Skills: |
Work experience reflecting a progressive career path within a law firm or other professional services firm. Minimum five to seven years prior experience required, as well as proven managerial track record. |
| Required Education: |
College degree, preferably in marketing, communications or English; MBA preferred. |
